Do you have an old junk car that you want to get rid of? Great! That means its time to find a company to come and tow away that old rig. Your probably thinking “Awesome, I’ll just call the first guy I come across!”, but I’m here to tell you “watch out!” You don’t want to just go ahead and call any old schmoe that you find on Craigslist. There are 5 things that you must know before calling someone to give you cash for your junk car.
Option three would be your best. It will cost you anywhere from $379.95 -to- $1,700 for a replacement. Most car owners will more than likely carry a higher deductible for their vehicle because that translates into lower premiums. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend filing a claim. If you have a “zero deductible” than perhaps I would consider it. Rates will more than likely increase with your claim, after all…what if it happened again in the near future.
One way to get cash for junk cars is to do most of the work yourself and then take the car to your local junk yard and sell it to them. If you are familiar with the inner workings of automobiles, this may be the way to go. The main things you need to do is to drain all gas, oil, coolant, and other fluids from the car. Junk yards only take cars with four tires, so make sure you have removed the spare tire. Make sure that if the car is under 10 years old you have the title available to give to the junk yard. Arrange for transport to the junk yard and that is it.
Turn on the car. With the radio and climate control system off, engage the ignition. The car should start up immediately and no strange catalytic converter recycling noises should come from underneath the hood or from the exhaust system. Put the car in gear and take note of how its shifts. Pull away gradually and pick up your speed, shifting between gears. Stop the car and put it in reverse.
One of the reasons I have been able to buy and sell so many junk cars is because I know what to do, and you know the old saying… “Knowledge is power.” One of the keys to being in the junk car removal business is this: having a list of people, or businesses that you can call on, which, for a fair price, will buy your junk cars for sale in a minute. Over the years I have built a relationship with various people and businesses that do just that.
So the term cat-back refers to all parts of the exhaust system between the outlet of the catalytic converter recyclers or cat and the outside air. This usually means a series of pipes, one or more mufflers, and perhaps exhaust tips.
While it is illegal in most areas for a mechanic to remove them, it may be necessary to replace it. These devices can fail because of exhaust valves that have gone bad on your engine or an overheated converter caused by plugs that have been fouled and have caused unburned fuel. It is difficult to know for sure if there is something wrong with them. However, it is typically clogged if you push down on the gas pedal and do not go faster. It also may be the problem is there is a large drop in your gas mileage. A converter that is partially dropped will be something of an engine governor. It will limit the overall RPMs down. If the device is completely clogged, then the engine will not run for long. Expect it to quit completely after only a couple of minutes.
So, how does the information above help you? The next time you visit an auto repair shop or dealership, ask the technicians about the published flat rates for the work you need. Then, ask them how long they expect the job to take. By doing so, you’ll have the right expectations when you receive the bill.
