This is when we all start getting those emails that want to steal our secret codes and passwords. You know the ones: “Your Account Is About To Be Closed,” “There’s A Block On Your Account,”, “Congratulations – You’ve Won The Lottery (that you never entered).”and my favorite “Could You Help Me Claim My Funds?”.
I would not recommend storing vital documents such as your will, birth certificate, etc. in the Memory Box. Those items should either be stored in a Safe deposit box for sale at the bank, or at home in a fire resistant box (remember, there is no such thing as a fireproof box for the home!). Some people store their vital documents in a regular file folder in their filing cabinet, and keep copies (or the originals) in a separate location. In the event that an emergency causes a very quick evacuation, the people and pets go out first, followed by the vital documents, and then the Memory Boxes.
If you don’t want the worries that may come with storing the gold an EFT or Exchange Traded funds may be the way to go. EFTs are the mutual funds in gold investing. They are simple. You buy the weight in gold you want and the EFT company holds the gold in your name. EFT companies will charge you a fee to hold the gold, but you will not have to worry about storage.
Get out the scissors and start cutting up those cards now. Don’t write down the expiration date and code on the back. It will be too tempting to use these on the internet or over the phone to shop. Cut the cards up and throw them away.
In order to prevent yourself from suffering such losses, it is important for you to install a fireproof wall safe at home. In common, there are various types of wall safes. They are different in terms of sizes, designs, functions, locking systems, etc. Most safes are designed to fit between the standard stud spacing of 16 inches on centers. There are some with 14 inches opening. If you just need the safe to keep all the important papers, and jewelries, a smaller safe will be sufficient for you. However, if you are a gun owner and you need to store your firearms, may be you need a bigger space.
You probably will not get the first domain name of your choice, and will need to try a few times before landing on one that is still available. This is a very important exercise, so take all the time you need.
In case you are wondering, I am taking my own advice, for I do not want my remaining daughter or grandchildren to have the same financial nightmare. Doing your financial homework is a gift to those you love.
